Erie Co. legislator pushing for opioid mapping system

Erie County Legislator John Bruso wants to make a change in Lancaster. So, he's taking suggestions from the Erie County Opioid Task Force in hopes to lower the amount of overdoses in his town.

“It's a huge deal. Because the wait to get help could be weeks. And now we're talking about within 48 hours we can get people help,” said Bruso.

It's called OD Map. Bruso presented the pilot program to the Lancaster Town Board on Monday. It's already in place in Cheektowaga. After a person overdoses and is revived, they're given information on how to get treatment, and then there is a follow up meeting with the person within two days. 

“When you have a peer who can actually speak to someone who is need of help, you get so much more benefit then someone else saying they need help,” said Bruso.

Bruso says the program is funded by the county and costs nothing for towns to implement. He hopes the program is county-wide by the end of the year.
