State Police and local law enforcement will implement the "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign from August 18th to September 5th.

Governor Andrew Cuomo directed police Thursday to ramp up enforcement efforts as part of a national crackdown on impaired driving through Labor Day weekend. Cuomo's office says that time period is one of the deadliest times of the year for drunk and drugged driving fatalities.

According to Cuomo's office, one-third of all traffic crash fatalities in the United States involve drunk drivers. In New York, alcohol involvement was listed as a contributing factor in more than 7,000 police-reported crashes in 2015, while illegal drugs contributed to more than 80 crashes.
