A Chautauqua County woman is facing charges after deputies say she abandoned her dog, leaving it to die in an apartment.

On August 12, deputies were called to East Main Street in the Village of Brocton, where someone reported a dead dog had been found in an upper apartment.

Deputies determined the dog had been abandoned by its owner and left in the apartment for around two months, where it died. It had been dead for some time when it was discovered.

A warrant was issued for the arrest of 33-year-old Kelly Harrell, who was later taken into custody in Jamestown on Thursday. She is charged with abandonment of an animal as well as overdriving, torturing and injuring an animal.

After being arraigned, she was taken to the Chautauqua County Jail on $2,500 bail.
