An evidence bag apparently involved in the rape investigation of Chicago Blackhawks star Patrick Kane is now in the custody of the Erie County District Attorney's Office.

According to Tom Eoannou, the attorney for Kane's alleged victim, the evidence bag, which once contained his client's rape kit performed at ECMC, was anonymously dropped off at her mother's doorstep earlier this week.

Late Thursday afternoon, Erie County Erie County District Attorney Frank A. Sedita announced that he will hold a press conference Friday morning to "address allegations of evidence tampering."

7 Eyewitness News reached out to ECMC about Eoannou's claim. The hospital said that it has no comment and that the DA will "explain everything" in his press conference.

Also on Thursday Eoannou held a press conference to say that he would be dropping the case after uncovering information that makes him question the case.

"Information was provided to my office which has established misrepresentations were made to me about the facts concerning the discovery of the rape evidence bag," said Eoannou.

The Chicago Tribune is now reporting that a key witness in the case "appears to be reluctant to testify." The tribune reports the witness is a female friend of the accuser who left SkyBar with the accuser, Kane and one of his friends.

The tribune reporting she no longer backs the alleged victim's version of the story. All these revelations in the case prove Kane is innocent according to his attorney Paul Cambria.

Cambria said "In the beginning of this case there were a number of things leaked to the press that were untrue that were not pro Kane."

Cambria says scientific evidence doesn't point to Kane's guilt and fabrication of the rape accusation isn't out of the question.

The DA will discuss the case Friday morning at 11.

This all stems from an alleged incident at Kane's Hamburg home in August.

Kane has not been charged with a crime.
