Curtain Up is this Friday night, and one of the plays opening this week is a witty drama that comes by way of a successful run in New York City, but it's all about Buffalo.

The play is called "For Heaven's Sake." It's about an Irish Catholic Buffalo family circa 1974 written by Laura Pedersen who grew up here in Western New York.

If Laura Pedersen's name rings a bell, maybe you've seen it on one of her many award-winning and critically acclaimed children's books, novels or memoirs.

She's written a number of plays, but "For Heaven's Sake" is the first one to open in Buffalo.

The story deals with the turbulent social issues of the 70s and the Catholic experience which the storyteller remembers well.

Pedersen said, "80 percent of the kids that went to my public school were Catholic and so were the teachers. If you tripped and scraped something, they tell you to offer it up... in a public school!!"

The show opens Thursday, September 17 at 710 Main. You won't want to miss this hometown play from a homegrown writer. So for heaven's sake, check it out!
