The family of a state trooper is asking for help.

The response to that was more than they could have expected, says the mother of state trooper Joe Gallahger.

"You know, this is how people are in Buffalo," said Mary Beth Gallagher. "When someone is in need, and someone is hurt as badly as Joe was hurt - with a traumatic brain injury - this is how people come together in this community to help out."

Over 650 people turned up in West Seneca at the Iron Workers Hall Saturday to play some raffle games, have live entertainment, food, and just rally in support of the trooper that has been in the hospital since getting hit by a distracted driver in Long Island back in December.

Although Gallagher was working in Long Island, he was raised in Buffalo. His mother says he went to Waterfront Elementary School and Bishop Timon High School.

The family is  still looking for donations from the public - if you're able to help contact the group or send money via PayPal to: benefitforjoegallagher@gmail.com
