Today is National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. Need to get rid of unused prescription drugs?

State leaders have launched a new website, ClearYourCabinet.com, to help New Yorkers find drug drop-off locations nearest them.

The initiative aims to help New Yorker safely dispose of prescription drugs and get them out of the home and off the street before getting in the wrong hands.

“Getting unused prescription drugs out of your home can stop an addiction before it starts,” said Attorney General Schneiderman. "These simple steps can help prevent addiction and save lives.”

There are two dozen disposal sites in the Buffalo area that will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. no questions asked.

Here are just a few places participating:

  • Erie County Sheriff's Office - 10 Delaware Avenue
  • Erie Community College Safety Office City Campus - 121 Ellicott Street
  • Walgreens - 650 Delaware Avenue

Find a location near you here.

During the last National Prescription Drug Take Back Day in October 2017, more than 450 tons of unused meds were collected across the United States. In New York State, over 42,000 pounds were collected, according to Schneiderman.
