Clarence High School students rally against gun violence

It's been one week since the deadly school shooting in Parkland, Florida killing 17 people and Western New York students are showing solidarity and rallying against gun violence. 

"We want change. We don't want to just sit here and we don't want to be next," Andy Kowalczyk, Clarence High School senior said.

Dozens of Clarence High School students rallied in Sunset Park at noon on Wednesday in the middle of their February break in solidarity with students in Florida and across the nation. 

"I can't tell you how many mass shootings we've all sat through and we've seen no action," Elena Lopez, Clarence High School senior said.

Student lined the streets of Wehrle and Harris Hill chanting and holding posters, some reading "Schools are for learning, not lockdowns" and "17 dead too many never again." 

Students also called out Congressman Chris Collins, a staunch supporter of the second amendment who has said that it's not the job of the federal government to dictate gun control. 

A spokesperson for Collins sent 7 Eyewitness News this statement saying he is supportive of President Trump's commitment to ban bump stocks and improve our nation's background check system to prevent dangerous weapons from getting into the wrong hands" and "is committed to advancing solutions focused on mental health and other options that prevent individuals like this from having the opportunity to carry out these horrific actions."
