"Put down the glock, clean up the block...Mothers are crying, babies are dying," --these are chants that roared over Genesee Street today because of a city peace walk.

The City Peace Walk was scheduled because it was needed in this community, Billie Webster the program manager for SNUG said. SNUG (GUNS spelled backwards) is a gun violence initiative program that wants to make communities a safer place by taking guns off the streets and by teaching young people that violence is not the answer to settling disputes.

"We want you all to march to chant and speak out about this violence in this city," Webster said. "We want people to understand that we all are one, we all are one unit and once we come together on one encore... we can stop this."

The community just wants to see peace and they are tired of the violence in their neighborhoods, Webster added.

"We as a community need to come together and show that togetherness, and somehow we can stop this," Monica Jordan, a mother to a victim of gun violence said.

Jordan lost her daughter two years ago to what she says was a "wrong place in the wrong time" shooting. She chose to walk today because she wants to see an end to the violence and believes the community can play a major role in bringing peace to the neighborhood.
