Cheektowaga High School wins "Smarter Football Grant" from helmet-maker Riddell and gets congratulation message from Peyton Manning.

The "Warriors" football team will receive $10,000 for equipment because of "smarter" tactics, safety clinics, nutrition seminars and other team improvements.

More than 700 applications were submitted for the grant from football programs nationwide.

Warriors coach and assistant principal Mike Fatta said the school is hoping to use the grant money to purchase new helmets with better technology to protect student athletes.

Riddell, the company that provides the grant, is now promoting a new "Precision-Fit" football helmet that uses 3-D technology to create helmets that are custom fit for individuals.  According to the company, helmets had traditionally come in small, medium and large sizes.  It is hoped the better fitting helmets will provide more protection for a young athletes head.

The grant application was written by the Cheektowaga Warriors Booster president whose son played on the team last school year.
