Craig Chudoba says he has lofty goals for his children, and they don't involve working at a casino. "I don't think children should be in a casino. What responsible parent would want their children working in casino?"
When Chudoba learned that Lake Shore Central School District hosted a job fair with Seneca Gaming Corporation as the sole participant, he wasn't too happy.
"I mean there's addiction, there's definitely all types things that happen in a casino that shouldn't normally take place."
On March 9th, freshman through senior students were visited by 25-30 Seneca Gaming Corporation Employees. Those employees talked about employment opportunities with the company which employees more than 4,000 throughout the region.
"It takes a very big and well trained, educated and diverse workforce to make our company successful," Phil Pantano told 7 Eyewitness News.
According to Seneca Gaming, there are job opportunities for just about every type of student. Pantano says an assortment of career paths were presented, everything from HR positions to carpentry.
District Superintendent James Przepasniak says every student gained knowledge on resume building and the interview process.
But the real, hands-on knowledge didn't sit well with some parents. Some parents had questions including why the casino was the only business features and why younger high schoolers were allowed to attend. Both the district and the casino maintain every student walked away with knowledge of the job world in general.
"I think it was a good collaboration," Przepasniak said.
"We learned something from it, in the future if we were to do something like this again, there would be some things we do differently.
