Western New York gas prices bucked the national trend last week.

According to AAA Western and Central New York (AAA WCNY), the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gas during the week of May 1, 2015 was $2.36 in Buffalo, and the average price per gallon statewide was $2.38. Both were up two cents from the previous week.

In contrast, the national price for a gallon of unleaded gas went down by one cent to $2.21 per gallon. This slight decrease comes after several weeks of price increases. Prices are expected to rise again as we approach Memorial Day and the busy summer driving season, but prices remain lower than they were a year ago. Last year at this time, the national average for a regular gallon of gas was $2.66.

Gas prices remain at their lowest prices since 2009.
