Have any extra food that you're planning to throw away? The City of Buffalo wants it.

Mayor Byron Brown announced Wednesday that the city will sponsor a food scraps recycling pilot program from June 6 to July 25.

Scraps will be collected at the Massachusetts Avenue Project's farm stand, located at Massachusetts Avenue Park, between Brayton Street and Shields Avenue.

"This is a safe, smart, and free way of disposing of food scraps that will be turned into valuable compost”, wrote Mayor Brown in a statement.

The city said all food scraps collected will be transported to the Buffalo River Compost.
