Yes, Virginia. It gets hot in Buffalo. Hot enough to prompt the city to open nine splash pads a month ahead of schedule.

Splash pads across the city will open for the season Memorial Day Weekend as Mother Nature turns up the heat well into the 80s. The 7 First Alert team of meteorologist is forecasting a high of 85 on Saturday with humid conditions. That's about 15 degrees above average for the end of May in Western New York.

The city says depending on the weather, the splash pads will only be open on weekends from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. through June. On June 27th, hours will expand to seven days a week through Labor Day. Outdoor city pools open July 1st.

Here is a list of splash pads in the city:

MLK Humboldt Basin - Best and Fillmore

Centennial - Lasalle Park

Houghton Park - Foot of Spann Street off Clinton

Cazenovia Park - Near the Cazenovia Casino

Lanigan Park - South Park Avenue near Louisiana

Schiller Park - Sprenger Avenue

Kensington Pool grounds - Kensington and Grider

Allison Pool grounds - Reese Street

Roosevelt Park - Roosevelt Avenue

Splash pads at Masten Park and Lincoln Park are expected to open by next weekend.

Niagara County's two splash parks will open Saturday, two days ahead of schedule. Krull Park in Olcott and Oppenheim Park in Wheatfield will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. throughout the summer.
