Governor Andrew Cuomo announced the designation of 11 new Brownfield Opportunity Area sites statewide. But what does it mean for us?

In Niagara Falls, specifically the Highland community, there are 15 potential brownfield sites, consisting of both residential and industrial areas. This designation will help clear the way for remediation with tax credits and $375,000 in grant money.

Niagara Falls Mayor Paul Dyster said, "The Brownfield Opportunity Area Program is something that has been, we think, critical to us over the years in trying to find ways to first of all remediate brownfields, eliminate any environmental contamination, environmental dangers, but even more important to find new uses for these industrial lands."

The City of Lockport is also included on this list with 52 potential brownfield sites near the Erie Canal.
