Across the country Wednesday, thousands of people gathered to commemorate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with bells ringing out 39 times in his honor. Those sounds echoed through Buffalo, as well.

The bells at the King Urban Life Center on Genesee Street in Buffalo rang 39 times. One toll for each year of life lived by Dr. King on this 50th anniversary of his assassination.

“It's something to always remember. In terms of recognizing the purpose of why he lived not the basis on which he died,” said Robert Brown, he helped ring the bells.

Following the 39 single rings. A symphony of bells rang out for all to hear. A five minute celebration dedicated to all that Dr. King did.
