A new play called "For Heaven's Sake" is about an Irish Catholic, Buffalo family in the 1970s. It was written by Laura Pedersen, who grew up in Western New York.

If the name Laura Pedersen rings a bell, maybe you've seen it on one of her many award winning and critically acclaimed children's books, novels and memoirs. She's written a number of plays too, but "For Heaven's Sake" is the first one to appear in Buffalo.

The story deals with the turbulent social issues of the 70s and the Catholic experience, which the storyteller remembers well.

Pedersen moved to New York City years ago, but admits that opening her show in her hometown at the 710 Main Theatre, formerly The Studio Arena, brings back some happy memories. "I saw Peter Pan here! (1972)"

The show is fresh from a successful run in New York City and Pederson brought the entire cast from that show to the 710 Main Street Theatre production. She says the actors keep telling her how "nice" everyone in Buffalo is.

The show opens Thursday at 710 Theatre and runs for 12 performances. More information on tickets available here.
