Another lawmaker is throwing his hat in the running, for the Republican nomination, to fill Congressman Chris Collins' seat in Washington.

Erie County Legislator Ed Rath announced on Twitter, "I intend to be a candidate for the office and I plan to take part in the formal candidate selection process."

This comes days after Congressman Collins, from Clarence, announced Saturday he will not seek re-election.  Collins was indicted on insider trading charges last week.

There are a number of other prominent elected officials who are interested in Collins' seat.

Rath, in his Twitter statement, said "It's important we keep this seat in Republican hands and I look forward to making the case on why I feel I'm the best candidate."

The Erie County GOP chairman will meet, in the coming days, with other county chair-people to discuss an official nomination.
