Flooding was the hot topic Thursday night at Dodge Elementary. The Town of Amherst’s Tonawanda Creek Flood Mitigation Committee held an educational forum on flooding.

Engineers and other town representatives were leading the forum. They provided information on preventative measures and updates on what the town is doing to keep flood zones dry.

Leaders say they are doing their part to make sure pumps are working and ditches are clean.

They are reminding residents to make sure their homes are equipped with appropriate pumps for basement flooding.

Also, if you’re living in an area known for flooding, make sure you get flood insurance. Amherst Leaders urged residents to visit www.floodsmart.gov .

Nearly 40 residents attended Thursday night’s event.
