Gas prices continue to rise in Western New York.

According to AAA, the average cost for a gallon of gas jumped to $2.13 a gallon, up five cents from one week ago.

But they say this could be just the beginning. AAA projects prices could rise another quarter between now and Memorial Day.

Buffalo's average is just above the national average of $2.06. The national average rose two cents in the past week.

The average for the state of New York is also up a nickel, at $2.17 a gallon.

Despite the rise in prices, AAA says Americans paid less for gas in the first three months of 2016 than any year since 2004. Compared to the same period a year ago, drivers saved $10 billion dollars in gas.

One year ago, the national average for gas was $2.40.
