U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer on Monday called on the Department of Justice and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to investigate before a gun that looks like an iPhone comes to market.

A Minnesota Company called Ideal Conceal invented this prototype gun so it can blend in with everyday society. On its website and Facebook page, Ideal Conceal has images that show something that looks like a phone in its case. But it can open into a .380 caliber gun. The site lauds its "high velocity, increased accuracy," and the weapon has a list price of $395.

Schumer said a gun looking like an everyday item could violate federal law, which was why he was asking the Justice Department and the ATF to investigate.

"The latest ideal for a concealed gun should come with 911 on speed dial, because this iPhone is just a disaster waiting to happen," Senator Schumer said.

Several Western New Yorkers we talked to feel the same about the gun.

"I think it's more likely to be used by people who are up to no good, rather than people defending themselves," said George Sax.

"It's too many crimes going on with these kids and this is not going to be nothing but extra temptation. Take that off the market," Corliss Bryant said.
