98-year old fears Mother nature will wash her marina out of business

98-year old Margaret Moyer is still trying to keep her family’s marina business afloat after last year’s flooding along Lake Ontario in the Town of Wilson. 

Moyer’s Marina has been struggling to get boaters to return. Normally they dock anywhere from 6 to 25 boats. Moyer said they were lucky to see two last season. 

“Everyday I pray. The only thing that’ll help us is God,” Moyer said. 

Last summer’s higher water level caused partially by rain caused thousands if not millions in damage along the lake. Some people have already stacked sand bags to protect their properties. 

According to the Town of Wilson supervisor, water levels are a foot higher than they were this time last year. Everyone is now keeping a watchful eye on Mother nature. 

Today New York’s Governor, Andrew Cuomo issued a request to the International Joint Commission. He asked the U.S. Chair to release the maximum amount o water out of Lake Ontario so it could reduce the flooding risk for people and businesses along the lake line. 

Meanwhile Niagara Emergency Management is gathering resources and making plans in case the water comes back.
