The National Homeland Security Conference kicked off Tuesday in downtown Buffalo.
It's an annual meeting of emergency professionals from the nation's biggest cities.
1,300 people are expected to attend the three-day event at the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center. It features lectures, panel discussions and presentations on the latest developments in security, preparedness and emergency responses.
Speakers include police and fire chiefs from Dallas who will share their experience about the officer ambush last year.
The Orlando Deputy Police Chief Robert Anzueto shared his experience Tuesday with the Pulse Nightclub shooting, and said conferences like these are important so law enforcement across the country can be better prepared.
A hands on experience is planned for Wednesday in Niagara Square. It will feature equipment used in Homeland Security Operations.
