Losing your job is never really a good thing, but if there's a burger there to console you afterwards, well, maybe that will cushion the blow? Burger King sure hopes so! Their latest campaign is called Whopper Severance and offers a free Whopper to anyone who will openly admit to being fired. Now, I know this seems like a strange marketing strategy, but in a Facebook post the brand wrote, "Ever been fired? Fire is kinda our thing," and the deal started to make a lot more sense. The gist: getting fired at work sucks, but a flame-grilled burger makes everything better. You'd rather get burned at Burger King than in the office, after all. Although, this deal isn't necessarily as easy to claim as it might seem. You can't just walk up to the cashier and say, "I got fired," to receive your free burger. Oh no—for this deal, you have to fully commit. You'll need to post something along the lines of "I got fired. I want a free Whopper. #WhopperSeverance" to LinkedIn in order to take advantage of this deal. You can easily post this to LinkedIn by visiting the Whopper Severance website. So, getting a free Whopper is really only for those who are serious about their burgers. Unfortunately, not everyone who's been fired can take advantage of this deal. Only the first 2,500 will receive a link to register to receive their Whopper Severance Package. Burger King photo The official end date is Sept. 1 or before depending on when the 2,500 people have admitted to being fired via LinkedIn. There doesn't seem to be any way for Burger King to check to see if you've actually been fired from your job and a Burger King representative told Business Insider that they're expecting customers to respond to the "light-hearted nature of the idea." So, fired from your job or no—you may want to see if you can be one of the first 2,500 to take advantage of the promo. Because hey—a free burger is never a bad thing. If you happen to miss out on this free burger deal, you can surely participate in some other ways to save from the fast food chain. There's a get two burgers, one small fry and a small drink option for just $3.49 for a limited time, too. So, get ready to save on fire-grilled burgers from Burger King one way or another!
