BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — "Cup and Char" the mini greasy pepperoni found on Buffalo-style pizza is moving down south to New York City. According to Eater Magazine, cup and char pepperoni has popped up in dozens of shops in New York City.

The Eater Magazine article credits the adoption of the roni cups because of a new sausage distributor that entered the NYC market, but also because of Instagram. Restaurateurs say the cupped pepperoni have more engagement on Instagram than the sliver dollar-sized slices.

New York City is famous for its pizza and they may be taken a page out of Buffalo's pizza play book.

Which style pepperoni is your favorite?

Prince Street Pizza in New York City has been using the tiny greasy pepperonis since they opened in 2012. Restaurant owners in New York City say Prince Street Pizza was the first to make the pepperonis popular in New York City. Owner of Prince Street Pizza Dominic Morano says he has seen the cup and char style pepperoni take over the pizza market.

"I think it already has, I think people have started to see the buzz that we have been getting," Morano said.

Morano says he like the cup and char for his pizza because it gives more flavor.
