E-cigarette use by young people in our state is skyrocketing. One in four high school students report using an e-cigarette.
E-cigarettes contain nicotine, among other chemicals. Nicotine can affect the heart, hormones, and gastrointestinal system. It can cause high blood pressure, and it’s addictive.
Users inhale these chemicals with some intensity. Some e-cigarette cartridges have higher levels of nicotine than a pack of cigarettes.
We do know that users can develop chronic cough, bronchitis and wheezing. But we don’t yet know all the long-term effects.
