Mt. Mercy finally puts one in the "W" Column

Despite a rocky start this year losing every game so far, but staying within only a few goals of each team they played. The Mt. Mercy Magic finally won their first lacrosse game in two seasons. New head coach Jessica Ortiz says "its what we been working so hard to achieve, we have a very talented group of girls and it's been so frustrating walking off the field with the losses. I'm very proud of all of the girls keeping their heads up and working harder and harder to get a win under their belt. I hope this mountain we climbed will now set us on a more comfortable ride down to win the remaining of our games. The coach also stated "It was a great achievement but we now have to look forward and continue using this momentum to rack up some digits in the win column."

On the way home Coach Ortiz made the bus driver stop at jojo's pizza for a little celebratory pizza party.

Major League Baseball is well under way, and the Buffalo Bisons have begun another season of play at Coca-Cola Field in downtown Buffalo. And for diehard fans of local baseball, that surely brings back memories of old ballparks such as War Memorial Stadium (The Rockpile) and Offermann Stadium.

While The Rockpile and Offermann Stadium no longer exist, there’s a baseball stadium in nearby London, Ontario, that dates back to 1877! Labatt Memorial Park — known as Tecumseh Park when it was first built — is believed to be the “world's oldest baseball park in continuous use in its original location.” Nestled at the forks of the Thames River, London’s landmark field has been a center for sports, recreational and cultural activities for more than 130 years.

One of Canada’s favorite ballparks, Labatt Memorial Park has played host to some of the game’s greatest players, including Satchel Paige and Ferguson Jenkins. The field is maintained in pristine condition by the City of London, as a tribute to players past and present, according to media reports.

Labatt Memorial Park is located at 25 Wilson Ave. in London. To watch a brief video of the park, please click here: http://www.londontourism.ca/Discover-Our-Spirit/Family-Fun/Labatt-Park. For helpful information on planning a quick getaway to London, please visit www.londontourism.ca.

Move over London Knights. There’s another team ready to hoist a championship banner to the rafters at the John Labatt Centre in nearby London, Ontario.

The London Lightning of the first-year National Basketball League of Canada defeated the Halifax Rainmen 116-92 in the final game of a best-of-five series on March 25 to win the NBL crown.
