The Herschell Carrousel Factory Museum is proud to be a participating venue in New York’s Path Through History Weekends taking place in early June. Celebrating the state’s unique historical and cultural significance, Path Through History Weekends feature special programs and events from New York City, north to the Canadian border, west to Buffalo, and everywhere in between. It’s an exciting state-wide event and a great way to kick-off the summer tourism season.

You can take part by discovering the carrousel’s legacy in the Tonawandas on Saturday and Sunday, June 8 – 9, from 12:00pm – 4:00pm at the museum. Tour the museum’s exhibits of antique carrousel animals, see woodcarvers at work, hear the familiar strains of the band organ, and take a ride on the 1916 #1 Special carrousel. A special highlight of the weekend is a lecture and carving demonstration by the museum’s carving instructor at 1:00pm on Saturday, June 8. Younger visitors will enjoy craft activities inspired by the carrousel and other Herschell rides. All activities are included with regular museum admission ($6 adults; $5 seniors; $3 students ages 2 – 16).

New York’s history is a profound competitive advantage for the state: protecting, preserving and promoting our heritage resources is a critical component of economic development and revitalization of communities throughout the state. In August 2012, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced the creation of “Path Through History,” an initiative which will not only showcase New York State’s history and cultural significance, but also promote tourism and economic development in every region of the state. In 2013 “New York Heritage Weekend” was integrated into this new overall statewide heritage tourism plan, becoming Path Through History Weekends.

The Herschell Carrousel Factory Museum is housed in the historic Allan Herschell Company Factory building at 180 Thompson Street, North Tonawanda. For directions and further information about special events, programs or group tours, visit our web site: www.carrouselmuseum.org or contact us at 716-693-1885 or info@carrouselmuseum.org

Join us for an hour long exploration of the museum’s collection of historic carrousel animals, band organ production equipment, woodcarving shop, 1950s kiddie rides, and more. To top it off, everyone enjoys a ride on our historic 1916 #1 Special carrousel. A guided tour is a great way to experience the museum for visitors of all ages, from 9 to 99.

You won’t want to miss this chance to get the inside scoop on the museum’s collections, so mark your calendar to join us on either Wednesday, May 1 or Saturday, May 18, 2013 from 1:00pm–2:00pm. These guided museum tours are included in regular museum admission ($6 adults; $5 seniors; $3 students ages 2 – 16), and participants are welcome to explore the museum further on their own.
Kevin Lapp, a 42 year old, widowed father of three 10 year
old triplets, fought a long, hard battle with MDS Leukemia. He lost that battle and left this world on April 1, 2013. His three wonderful children, Brian, Kiersten and Nathan miss him so very much. They have been welcomed into the family of Kevin's sister, Patty Emmons, and their family of 6 is now a family of 9. We want to help support Kevin's children. There will be a benefit on May 18 at St. Bartholomew's from 1-4 PM ($20 per ticket - children under 12 free) with themed baskets, food and entertainment.
On Friday Night, May 31 - Buffalo's own BBC Band is giving a benefit concert on behalf of the Lapp Children. Tickets are just $15. Tickets for both events can be bought from St. Bartholomew's Church Office, 2368 Eggert Rd, Tonawanda, NY 14150, phone 831-1777. We appreciate any help you can give us in getting a great deal of support for these 3 great children. Thank you,
Fr. John Commins

Friday, May 3rd was a big day for 29 of our students! Thanks to the Athletics Department, BASCS students had the opportunity to visit Ralph Wilson Stadium – home of the Buffalo Bills! The trip was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for students to tour the stadium. Students got the rare chance to visit the field house, where the Bills’ strength and conditioning coaches discussed proper nutrition and gave them information about their respective careers. While in the field house, students got to meet Bills’ Defensive End Mark Anderson! From the field house, students visited the ticket office where the Office Manager talked to them about marketing and ticket sales. Students were also able to visit the Bills’ locker room, stand on the football field and get the bird’s-eye view from the Players’ Exclusive Box, where family, friends and guests of the Bills’ players get to watch the live games. Overall, it was a fantastic trip where students got to have fun but were also reminded constantly to keep their grades up, go to college and work hard. Thanks to the Buffalo Bills for letting our students get the “behind-the-scenes” tour!

BASCS held its 6th Annual Spelling Bee on Thursday afternoon. What an amazing competition it was! BASCS' 25 best spellers battled it out in 22 rounds of competition. All of the contestants gave it their best shot and did a terrific job. As the contestants were whittled down to the top 5, it seemed to be anyone's game. Eventually 5 became 3 left standing... Third place was taken by junior, Tanesha Williams and second place secured by freshman, Aqdas Yousuf. Although an impressive showing was made by all, our victor for the day was 7th grade student, Isis Toledo! S-P-E-C-T-A-C-U-L-A-R!!!
