In the 1980's there was an attempt to reuse the old Crystal Beach boat, known by everyone as the SS Canadiana. It was towed back from Ohio, and for a couple of years was tied up at the old Bell Slip on Fuhrmann Blvd. Funding were given in the way of donations to try and refurbish the ship back to its glory days of the early 20th Century, but the funding dried up, and eventually the ship was towed to the Welland Canal to be dismantled in the later part of the century.
