Trainer, Olivia Doutt, with Jenessa Preston after the Grand National win on her horse, Pomp and Circumstance.

Local Champion Comes in Small Package

Jenessa Preston, of Amherst, returned earlier this week from competing at the Grand National and World Championship Morgan Horse Show held in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She brings home the Grand National Champion title for her performance in the Walk Trot Hunter Seat Equitation division for her age group. Jenessa, who is just eleven years of age, rode to victory on her horse, Pomp and Circumstance, by efficiently maneuvering him around the ring with correct posture and a steady hand to illustrate her skill in the Equitation class. Her smile beamed with confidence as she kept control of her horse despite his having been distracted by another rider's mount acting up directly behind the duo. Jenessa has been riding for several years, the last three with her Trainer, Olivia Doutt, of Champion Hill Farm in Newstead, who has provided the guidance for Jenessa to have performed at such a high level. She competed in numerous horse shows across Western New York to prepare, and rode several times a week on multiple horses for additional practice and conditioning. Jenessa is already working on preparations to return to the Championship show again next year.
