We spent all summer enjoying our sunflowers. This was our first time ever planting anything at all. They grew to over 9 feet tall. The leaves were bigger than our heads. The stems were bigger around than silver dollars. They got so big and so heavy that they started to droop. Then the winds hit yesterday. The only sunflower it took out was our biggest one that my son named "Sunny." We went out and he tried to pick it up. It is huge and heavy. The flower head is way bigger than his head.
