Cedar Waxwing Feeding Young

Our 3 Waxwing Babies & Parent

Last week 8/12/09 I found a baby waxwing bird that was too young to fly in our yard, so I took him and put him in a bird cage, the parent came to feed him, but couldn't get the beak through cage, so we opened up the wires so he could feed. The next day there was another one found by my dog, so I took that one and put in cage with its sibling. Thurs. we went to the Erie Co. fair and came home and there was another one my neighbor had found on our deck & she put it in the cage, boy were we shocked to see another one when we got home, we now had the 3 Amigoes.
We live in Lockport and we figured they must have fallen from the nest in our tree. They couldn't fly and when we were home we would let them sit on my parakeets gym. Saturday 2 of them decided to take off into the tree. Two days later the runt decided he was strong enough to fly, he would see his parent come and feed the other two, but wouldn't come to feed him anymore so he went up into the tree and the parent fed him to. What an experience that was. The parent would come and feed the babies while my husband and I sat on both sides of the table or just 4 ft. away from us when he would come and feed them on the gym.
