Despite all that has happened, residents here are trying to keep their spirits high and remind themselves that despite all the horrid damage, we are surviving.
This buffalo on Aldrich Street a few homes down from me proudly proclaims "Gowanda Survived '09", reminding us all of the most important thing of all - we are still alive and here to tell the tale of Mother Nature's wrath.
The Red Cross continues to distribute cleaning supplies and bottled water to all residents in need from their base at the Aldrich Street school as well as medical care, though they wish it to be known that they are saving medical supplies for true emergencies. If you believe you have an injury and may be at risk for tetanus, they are also giving shots. Residents may take bottled water daily for use depending on family size.
With FEMA preparing to set up tomorrow, it looks like more much needed relief is on the way. As I write this, a church youth group arrived to help my mother and I clean our basement. Because I am disabled and my mom has health issues, we were not sure how we were going to clean up!
