If it wasn't for some outpatient surgery, we may not have gotten Baxter.
My wife and I were contemplating getting a dog, she has had dogs her whole life, and I have never had a dog. Naturally she was a little hesitant to get a dog because she thought I would be in over my head with responsibility. But due to a series of unfortunate events, she spotted a litter of puppies in the paper and wanted to cheer herself up after surgery and said lets take a drive. That would be the best drive of our lives.
Pulling up to a farm house we noticed an outdoor play pen. . . . but what we didn't notice is the eight grey balls of fur cuddled together in the corner, one on top of the other. We immediately separated the male dogs and played with the four of them. My wife was insistent that we have to think about the decision and did not want to tell me that she had already made her decision. . . yes! So we talked about it on the way home and the next day. . . needless to say, we picked up the dog in the next week. We chose the name Baxter because it was unique and it was the name of the dog in one of our favorite movies "Anchorman" with Will Ferrell.
The rest as what they say is history. We couldn't imagine our lives without Baxter. He is a very important part of our lives. When we travel it is sad to leave him and we have to hep each other to not think of him. . . .always asking "what do you think he is doing now?". He keeps our house happy and full of exercise, bnecause as most of you know, these dogs are very very high energy. . . so two walks a day at least.
Thanks for sharing these great memories with me, contest or not I am just happy to recall that amazing moment we picked up our best friend in the whole wide world.
