These are pictures of Great Black Backed Gulls that were taken on Thursday, April 2, 2009 on the end of the jetty at the East River Marsh Project on Grand Island, NY.

The Great Black Backed Gulls are much larger than the Ring Billed Gulls we usually see on the Niagara River and Lake Erie.

The lighter pigmented bird is most likely a female or juvenile.
