I live in Buffalo NY on a Island just north of the city. Grand Island NY is between Buffalo and Niagara Falls NY. At the beginning of December I became disable with a badly fracture foot. I have been in a cast for the past seven weeks and have not been able to clean the snow and Ice from the house. Crutches do not do well in Buffalo's winters. I have at times been able to get the front of the house cleaned by kids in the area. Grand Island is a nice place to live and the people are always friendly here on the Island. Right when I became disable with the foot we had our first big snow fall of the season. Since the beginning of December we have had 87 inches of snow and this is only the end of January. The Island most of the time gets missed by most of the snow but this year we have been hit hard in all areas of Upstate NY. I had my hard cast removed in the past week and am now in a walking boot that I need to keep on at all times. This I will be wearing for the next three weeks. If all, go's well than I will be able to remove the boot and get off the crutches. By the time I fully recover I will have missed the whole winter and for most of it have only seen the snow and ice from the windows of my house. If you do not have to be in a cast on crutches in the middle of winter in Buffalo than don't. Wait for spring or summer. It's not an area that is easy to get around in during the winter months. Even if you have both feet it is a hard area to live in darning the winter months. We have lots of snow and very cold temperatures from December-April. When April arrives it's still cold and dose not reach the 70's till the end of May sometime as late as June. Then in October we start all over again. We have a very short summer in Buffalo NY. Thanks for reading my story.
