During the holiday season (late Nov. - Dec) we as a subdivision decorate the trees that are nearest the curb with white lights. Having volunteered for the Make-A-Wish-Foundation and granting many wishes for children over the years, Jennifer Chomen can tell you first hand that the smiles found on those faces are ones that are permanently etched in her heart and mind. Seeing so many of our neighbors playing outside over the summer, bike riding, fishing etc. made her want to give back to some other families who may be experiencing some difficult times. It is for that reason she began what we are naming "Stony Brook Shines for Others". While most of us average 2-3 trees per household, some of us have more. We are asking that each of us donate either $5 per tree decorated or a flat donation of $10 per family (or whatever you are most comfortable with donating) to the particular cause of the year...this year, that would be the Make-A-Wish Foundation. To date, neighbors have raised around $800 for The Make-A-Wish Foundation with checks being dropped off daily! Thank you to everyone who is participating in this worthwhile event. To those of you who have not yet seen all of the lights in our neighborhood we invite you to drive thru and see what the true spirit of Christmas looks like. Each tree that is lit reminds us the little things that we can do for others that truly make a difference.
Happy holidays everyone…from your neighbors in the Stony Brook Subdivision.
