On Saturday November 1, 2008, Buffalo Fire Department's Engine 4 station located on Abbott Road in South Buffalo distributed free smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, and recycling bins to area residents in recognition of National Fire Prevention & Safety Month. Fire and safety literature, city government information, and cider and donuts were given. Mayor Byron Brown, Fire Commissioner Michael Lombardo, and several firefighters were present to answer any questions and concerns residents had. This event also gave the opportunity for the public to see the inside of the firehouse and firetruck, and to learn the daily routine of the fire department.
