The look of city property!

Cut around your own front door

The city is using police manpower to issue citations for unkempt lawns. What about their property? There have been various complaints made about this city owned property at 713 Northampton Street. It looks so bad that the police have even issued citations to this property. Who will pay them? It's an eye sore and a safety concern.

This is a vacant property that has been repeatedly burglarized. The pipes and various fixtures have been stolen. Recently the back windows have been removed and there have been numerous sitings of trespassors in the property. These have been reported to the police as well as to the Mayor's Resolution Line. I have called numerous times and have been told that the city would not board windows on upper levels. Neighbors feel that this house is a danger to those living around it, adults and children as well. The fear of arson, illegal activity and squatting are at the top of the list of concerns as these are common practices in abandoned properties.

Then there's the matter of the grooming. The city wants everyone to be responsible for the upkeep of their property, what about city property? The last time anyone groomed this property was in June. The grass and hedges are growing out of control. The hedges are more than six feet high. This causes an obstruction to drivers when coming out of their driveways. It also causes a problem with entering and exiting our vehicle. There's also an infestation of insects in the bushes. In the backyard things are just as bad. There is standing water, high grass and bushes and trash. These matters clearly pose a threat to the "Quality of Life."

This is probably one of the many millions of the vacant eyesores that plague this city. If we eliminate vacant buildings, we would probably eliminate about 90 percent of our problems such as crime and a poor local economy.
