While summer vacation is just getting started, one thing you’ll want to do before the kids head back to school in September is schedule an eye examination.
“Children should be given every opportunity to perform to the best of their ability in the classroom, and proper vision is an extremely important factor in their success,” said Michael Tomasik, owner of Tomasik Optical in Orchard Park and Lackawanna. “Even if your child is not complaining about seeing the SmartBoard in their classroom, there are some warning signs that parents should look for, including frequent eye rubbing or blinking.
“Other fairly common signs of vision problems may include frequent headaches, covering one eye or tilting the head to one side, squinting, holding reading materials close to the face, and an eye turning in or out,” added Tomasik.
Visiting an eye care professional for a comprehensive eye exam is the only way to really be sure your child’s eyes are healthy. Dr Mark Sorrentino, a 1991 graduate of the New England College of Optometry and a resident of Orchard Park, has been examining eyes at Tomasik Optical for nearly 20 years. If a problem is uncovered during the examination, opticians Tomasik and colleague David Kuntz will make shopping for eyeglasses or contact lenses an enjoyable experience, where your satisfaction is the top priority.
