Enjoy The Journey Art Gallery at 1168 Orchard Park Road, West Seneca, has released it upcoming schedule of all-ages events. Hours at the gallery are 2 to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
A cob web chaser class with Karen Koch will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, May 9. Using a stick, your hands and feet and a broomcorn, you will construct a cobweb chaser with a pine handle. The broom will feature Appalachian-style plaiting and will be a joy to use for years to come. The cost of the class is $35.
“The Fire Within,” an exhibit featuring the work of abstract artist Susie Kelly Flatau, will open from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, May 10. The exhibit, inspired by the spirit and beauty of Texas and the Southwest, will remain on display through June 1. The opening event will feature refreshments and live music.
The art of the hand-sewn, pocket-style booklet with artist Susie Kelly Flatau takes place from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 19. Participants will create a personal pocket-style signature booklet that incorporates the five-hole signature binding technique. Supplies included in the $20 registration fee.
The next Creative Muse meeting, a networking event for local artists offering an opportunity to talk about exhibits, galleries, framing, prints, blogs, the business side of art and more, will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, May 23.
Flatau will also teach the art of Japanese bookbinding for personal idea book from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 26. This journal is perfect for recording thoughts, as a sketch pad, for collecting ideas and more. Supplies are included in the $20 cost.
Wine, Women & Art, a great girl’s night out with Andrea Oswald, also takes place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, May 30. Participants will paint a set of glasses, sip on a variety of wines, and sample some goodies. The registration fee is $25 and includes all supplies. Call early to reserve your place!
Another round of acrylic painting classes with Phillip Schulte will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays, June 4, 11, 18 and 25. Participants will learn about acrylic paints, techniques, layers and color mixing while working on a painting of their own choosing. Schulte will assist each student with their choice of subject matter. The cost of the four-week class is $80.
Garden Art Saturday, featuring funky and beautiful garden art of all kinds, will be available “under the tent” from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 22. Stop by and brighten your garden with a piece of local artwork!!
Entries for “My Awesome Pet,” an amateur photography contest, are due by Wednesday, May 8. For a $15 entry fee, photographers can submit three 8x10 photos mounted on foam core board. An awards reception will take place from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 8.
Entries for a second photography contest, “The Essence of Water,” are due by Wednesday, June 5. Subject matter can include scenes such as lakes, creeks, streams, beaches and waterfalls. An awards reception will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 8.
Enjoy The Journey offers month-long exhibits to artists, encompassing three rooms with 71 linear feet of space. The cost of the exhibit price includes advertising efforts, opening reception, bartender, wine, coffee, punch, paper goods, hanging and take down of exhibit by gallery, wall labels, and Facebook updates and photos throughout the month.
