Following a very successful soft opening at their spacious new location at 4557 Main St. in Snyder, Farmers & Artisans will host a grand opening celebration from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 4. Guests will have an opportunity to meet several local food producers and sample many of their products during the day-long event.
A local food market and artisan bakery, Farmers & Artisans was previously located at 78 East Spring St. in Williamsville. The new location places even greater focus on local and sustainable food products provided by smaller producers and growers, according to owner Julie Blackman. Blackman’s family also owns Blackman Homestead Farm in Lockport.
Farmers & Artisans has become well-known for a variety of services, including take-out breakfast and lunch items; fresh baked goods and coffee; fruit, vegetable and flower shares; weekly sustainable seafood offerings; catered lunches and much more. The store also offers locally and regionally produced dairy products, eggs, chef-prepared foods, pastured meats, artisan cheeses and a wide variety of pantry items. They will begin offering mixed meat boxes in the near future.
The new 2,200-square-foot facility now employs a staff of 10, according to Blackman. The street-front Main Street business is a welcome addition to the neighborhood and occupies space that had been vacant since a serious fire occurred at the location in December 2011. The corner lot has been occupied by homes and businesses since the early 1900s.
“It’s always been a neighborhood type of retail and office environment,” said building owner Bruce Levine, president of 3d Partners LLC. “The people who have always worked and shopped here tend to live right in this area, and we’ve been able to maintain that character. We held out for quite some time after the fire until we could find the right tenant. It’s really an awesome use for this corner.”
“Snyder is a unique spot because a lot of people walk the community,” added Blackman. “It’s one of the oldest parts of Amherst and has a lot of character. This business is something the area was in need of, a place where people can come in, buy healthier foods and have a connection to rural farmers.”
