Center for Health Science thriving

The Center for Health Science at Annunciation School in Elma, a unique hands-on learning experience for seventh- and eighth-grade students, continues to thrive in its second year.

Sponsored by Unyts, Southtowns Radiology, Independent Health and Bishop Timon St. Jude High School, the program features a wide variety of field trips and guest speakers. In October, students visited Mercy Hospital in South Buffalo for a presentation on cardiovascular disease and a tour of the Emergency Department. In November, participants spent time at P2 Collaborative of WNY for a presentation on Type 2 Diabetes. And just recently, students visited a local Wegmans store where they toured the organic and specialty foods departments as part of a nutrition section of study.

Students then prepared a healthy meal in March to culminate the nutrition section. Next, participants will be completing recertification training in first aid and CPR.
