Annunciation Church in Elma will host four special Lenten events from March 13-19, and the public is invited to visit and participate.
Mary at the Cross, a Lenten Evening of Reflection with Sister Marion Moeser, will take place at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 13. Sr. Marion is an associate professor of scriptural studies at Christ the King Seminary.
The Chopin Singing Society will perform a Lenten Concert in the church at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 14. From the modest 16-voice male chorus founded in 1899 by Boleslaus Michalski, the Chopin Singing Society has a history of achievement. Its unwavering focus has been its goal — the promulgation of Polish music and song — not only in the choral work of its choir but in its support of other worthwhile musical events, most notably very successful Polish operas presented by the Greater Buffalo Opera Company.
The Franciscan Mystery Players will present Meditation on the Passion of Christ at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 15. This deeply moving live presentation follows the journey of the Stations of the Cross and is presented by high school and college-age students.
A St. Joseph’s Table will be held beginning at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, with a blessing at 6 p.m. This is an Italian tradition from the Middle Ages which honors St. Joseph. Seating is limited and sign-up sheets are available in the church. Participants are asked to bring a meatless dish or dessert to share.
