Dog Ears Bookstore, a nonprofit neighborhood bookstore located at 688 Abbott Road in South Buffalo, hosted a special literacy event on Sunday, Feb. 24. The purpose of the gathering, dubbed “Cappuccinos and Cocktails,” was to raise awareness of the bookstore and its unique Enlightenment Literary Arts Center located on the second floor.
Dog Ears Bookstore and The Enlightenment Literary Arts Center work in conjunction with schools, organizations and publishing companies to offer not only a unique place to obtain books, but in promoting an ongoing initiative to regenerate books into schools and the community. The bookstore also provides an atmosphere that promotes quiet reading time as well as group discussions, writing classes and youth programs in order to maximize what literature and literacy have to offer.
Also helping to support the bookstore is the new Dog Ears Cafe, open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. Menu items include homemade baked goods, yogurt parfaits, Greek yogurt, egg sandwiches, and a wide variety of sandwiches, wraps and salads. Beverage selections include a variety of locally roasted and freshly brewed McCullagh coffees and delicious teas.
