The Buffalo Warriors of the newly formed IBA-PBL basketball league, who will begin play in March, will have their home games broadcast locally on WECK AM 1230 and FM 102.9 The Breeze.
The joint announcement was made today by Warriors owner Edward Bednarz and Dick Greene, owner of Culver Communications. WECK is also the home of University at Buffalo football and men’s basketball games, while sister station WLVL 1340 AM carries UB women’s basketball games.
The new IBA-PBL was formed following a merger between the Independent Basketball Association and the Premier Basketball League. An announcement regarding the league schedule, Buffalo’s home venue and the play-by-play team will be made in the very near future.
“We look forward to our new broadcast partnership with WECK, which will give our fans who can’t make it to our games an opportunity to follow the team all season long,” said Bednarz. The team has recently inked several players to contracts for the 2013 season, including 7’4” center Moussa Seck of Senegal, recording artist TreVonn “Diego Trinidad” Campbell, and former Harlem Globetrotter Anthony Cox.
“We are pleased to be able to support a local franchise and bring it to Buffalo’s only locally owned AM and FM radio station,” added Greene. “WECK is all about Buffalo, and we’re very happy about our relationship with both the Buffalo Warriors and the University at Buffalo.”
