Heroes in Oswayo's eyes.
Heath Evingham, Deanna Johnston and Bill Simpson.
On Saturday, April 19th, fire destroyed 2 homes in Oswayo, PA... Potter County. Nearly claiming a 3rd home. The home of Joe and Pat Miller caught fire approximately around 11:15am. Pat Miller was home and unaware of the fire.
Deanna Johnston alerted Mrs Miller that the house was on fire and escorted her to safety.
Heath Evingham grabbed a garden hose and began putting out the burning debris falling on Deanna and David Johnston's home. Johnston's home was directly downwind from the blaze and would have caught fire if not for Heath. Heath stayed in the front yard of the Johnson's home throughout the fire and intense heat with a garden hose, putting out the small fires as they came down and kept the house watered down.
Bill Simpson, was also able to fight the heat and flying embers get to Mrs Miller's car and summon the help of others, to help push Mrs Miller's new car out of harm's way and save it from burning.
And through it the flames still stands Joe Miller's American flag and U.S.M.C flag. The flames stopped at the flagpole and the flags weren't noticed until the roof collapsed and smoke cleared.
Mr and Mrs Joe Miller lost everything in this blaze. Joe is a decorated Vietnam Veteran, and spent his career in the military, serving his country. They are currently staying with neighbors.
A benefit is being held at the Oswayo Church, May 4th 1-3pm. $6.00 per person.
