North Tonawanda NY - Generation Church in North Tonawanda is organizing and deploying a team to head to NYC on Monday Nov 12 to help with the relief effort. With the help of their parent church, First Assembly of God in Niagara Falls and local businesses, the church has put together a team of 12 people who will endeavor to partner with local retailers and Western New Yorkers to fill a 28 foot box truck that was donated for the cause with supplies needed in hard hit areas on the Eastern US coastline.
Generation Church is mobilizing this effort in response to a call for help from Western New York native Todd Bishop who pastors a church in Long Island.
Generation Church just opened its doors on September 16th in North Tonawanda.
Pastor of Generation Church, Chad Rieselman said " Even though we are a brand new congregation, we cannot sit back and do nothing while our brothers and sisters are suffering."
He continued "We feel that there is a clear call to help out in the relief effort, not just because Pastor Todd is from Western New York, but because people there are hurting and need help.” He added, “We follow Jesus not just by believing what He said, but in doing what He did. He calls us to run directly into the messes to offer help and hope.”
Convoy of Hope volunteers with experience cleaning up from Hurricane Katrina say that the destruction left behind by Sandy on the NY/NJ coastline is as bad as what they experienced in New Orleans.
Rieselman said, "I think the election coverage has buried how big the need is for help back east"
