My brother Raymond was forced to endure pain and suffering because of the laws in New York State regarding end-of-life decisions. While I was investigating the laws that forced my brother to be kept alive against my family's wishes, I was appalled at how antiquated and restrictive they were. Now, I'm making it my mission to let every New Yorker know that if they don't have a health care proxy before they become incapacitated, no one, not their family members nor their loved ones can make the decision to withdraw life support. Everyone I talk to about this tells me of someone they know who was kept alive against the families wishes. Please appoint a health care proxy for yourself.
