Gallery lists classes for kids, adults

Enjoy The Journey Art Gallery, 1168 Orchard Park Road, West Seneca, has released it upcoming schedule of events for children and adults. Hours at the gallery are 2 to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Ethereal Illusions/Nude Food — Photography by Tiffany Machelski & Brian Machelski, is the gallery’s featured exhibit during August. An opening reception, free and open to the public, will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 17. The exhibit will run through Sept. 8.

A new jewelry class, “Cuff Bracelet” with artist Gary Melius, is scheduled from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 21. The cost is just $65 and includes all supplies, and the registration deadline is Aug. 18.

Children’s art classes continue from 1 to 3 p.m. Aug. 21 and 28 for 7- to 9-year-olds and Aug. 22 and 29 for 10- to 12-year-olds. Please visit the gallery’s website at http://etjgallery.com for a complete schedule.

Wine, Women & Art, a girl’s night out with artist Andrea Oswald, takes place on Aug. 23, Sept. 27, Oct. 25, Nov. 15 and Dec. 15. Participants in this popular class create a piece of art to take home while enjoying a glass of wine or two. Held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., the cost is $25 and includes all supplies. Please register at least two days prior to scheduled classes.

“Jewelry Extravaganza at the Gallery,” a special event featuring handmade artisan jewelry by local artists – including pearls, African beads, gemstones, sterling silver, beadwork and more, will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25.

Oil Painting: Disegno E Colore Classes with Sara Zak, will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday evenings, Sept. 17 and 24, and Oct. 1 and 8. The cost is $65 for gallery members and $75 for non-members, and the registration deadline is Sept. 13. Over the course of four weeks, participants will work on two paintings, one focusing on value to create form and the other focusing on color relationships to build a composition.   

Colored pencil classes with artist Cindi O’Mara are scheduled from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday evenings in September and October. Sessions (two classes) cost $35 for members and $38 for non-members and include the following: Sept. 18, Beginner #1, Basic Intro to Color Pencil; Sept. 25, Beginner #2, Basic Intro to Color Pencil: Application of skills learned in Class 1. Oct. 2, Beginner #3, Still Life With Color Pencil; Oct. 9, Beginner #4, Complete Still Life Project. Oct. 16, Beginner #5, Landscape With Color Pencil; Oct. 23, Beginner #6, Complete Landscape.

Collage/Mixed Media classes with artist Paulette Krakowski will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 26, and Oct. 3, 10 and 17. The cost is $65 for members and $75 for non-members, and the registration deadline is Sept. 21. A collage is a work of art composed of numerous materials such as paper, newsprint, photographs, ribbons or other objects attached to a background support. The collage allows the artist to experiment with a wide range of materials to achieve amazing end results. Participants will take it a step further and include paints, pastes, transfers and found objects to their artwork.

September’s art exhibit will feature paintings by artist Mary Claire Rivera. An opening reception will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14, while the exhibit will run from Sept. 12 through Oct. 8.
